Cold and Wet – All For a Good Cause

The title of the pop music classic “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” certainly offers a fitting description of Maryland’s weather here in the middle of winter. So what better time to take a plunge in the icy water of the Chesapeake Bay!

That indeed is what several members of the CPS || Gumpert team will be doing on Saturday, January 29th during the 15th Annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, benefiting Maryland Special Olympics.

A Maryland winter-time tradition, the Polar Bear Plunge attracts more than 12,000 participants each year and takes place at Sandy Point State Park at the foot of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Over its 14-year history the event has raised more than $16 million for Maryland Special Olympics.

CPS ||Gumpert is a Gold-level sponsor of the 2011 Polar Bear Plunge. Company CEO Jeff Ostenso will be arriving to the event in style via helicopter, and will be plunging into the icy water with Ravens quarterback and event co-chairman Joe Flacco.

“Our company and its employees are proud and excited to support the largest fundraiser in the Baltimore area, one that helps makes a meaningful difference in the lives of children and adults with intellectual disabilities,” said Ostenso.

Among the 60 teams of intrepid “Super Plungers” this year are CPS || Gumpert Digital Manager Steve Schwartz and his sons, Louis and Luke. “Super Plungers” are an exclusive group of hearty souls willing to brave the elements and take 24 plunges into the frigid waters during a period of 24 hours.
